Remove Text from a Picture

Remove Text takes the text out of a picture, such as a caption, a date stamp or the writing on a sign, and fills in the area behind it. In the web app it removes all the text it finds, so there is nothing to select.

How do I remove text from a picture?

Open Remove Text in the Magic Remove part of the PixeLift web app and upload your picture. There is nothing to select: the tool removes all the text it finds, such as captions, date stamps or the writing on a sign, and fills in the area behind it. Then compare the result with your original.

  1. Sign in to PixeLift and open Magic Remove in the dashboard.
  2. Choose Remove Text and upload your picture.
  3. Generate the result, compare it with the original using the Before / After button, then save or share it.

Good uses

  • The orange date stamp on scanned prints from older cameras.
  • Captions and stickers on your own images and screenshots.
  • Signs, labels and price stickers in your own photos.

Not for watermarks or other people's work

The Acceptable Use Policy only allows editing images you own or have the right to edit. Removing a photographer's or a stock site's watermark isn't allowed.

Which text removes cleanly?

Text on sky, walls or a plain color usually disappears without a trace. Text across a face, a detailed pattern or other writing is harder, and the filled area may look soft.

Can I remove only some of the text?

Remove Text takes out everything. To remove one piece and keep the rest, try Remove Object and describe it, for example "the date in the bottom right corner", or use Edit on the result.

More questions

Can I remove the date stamp from old photos?

Yes, that is one of the most common uses. Scan or photograph the print, upload it to Remove Text and check the corner where the date was.

Can it remove a watermark?

Not someone else's: the Acceptable Use Policy only allows editing images you own or have rights to.

Can it remove a logo?

Any words in a logo go with the rest of the text. A logo that is a picture rather than text isn't removed by Remove Text; describe it in Remove Object instead. Only do this on pictures you own or have the right to edit.

Can I replace the text with new words?

Remove the old text first, then choose Edit on the result and type the new text you want, for example "add the words Happy Birthday at the top". Check the spelling carefully, because AI often gets letters wrong.

Using the tools needs credits or a plan: see pricing. The rules for what you may edit are in the Acceptable Use Policy.
